Hear Facebook, Ericsson, Nokia (now Microsoft) and Open Garden discuss in a panel titled, Meeting the Challenge of Global Connectivity


The theme for GMIC Beijing 2014 is “Mobilizing the Next 5 Billion.” is a global partnership with the goal of connecting the two thirds of the world’s population that doesn’t have internet access. Join three of the founding members of and GMIC SV 2013 G-Startup winner Open Garden as they discuss our shared vision of bringing connectivity to the next 5 billion users.

The founding members of — Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung plan to develop joint projects, share knowledge, and mobilize industry and governments to bring the world online.

Pat Wu, Strategy & Planning Lead at Facebook will present an overview of and share the latest data from its initiatives. He will be joined by other panelists Jean-Christophe Laneri, Director – Mobile Broadband, Ericsson; Srikanth Raju, Regional Head of Developer Experience – APAC, Microsoft, and Micha Benoliel, CEO & Co-founder, Open Garden. The moderator, Clement Teo, senior analyst at Forrester Research, will then lead the panelists in a discussion on the major hurdles and opportunities in connecting those in emerging markets.

From the business impact of such initiatives to the technology side of things, the panel will look at various aspects of this ambitious initiative.

The panel is scheduled for May 5, 2014 from 1PM to 2PM at Hall G on the 3rd floor of CNCC.
