The Xiaomi phone has now reached revenue levels as high as $158 million per month, according to company statements earlier today. The latest from our friends at Tech in Asia (via Sina Tech) shows that Xiaomi, the company that took the market by surprise last year with its smartphones promoted as an alternative to the more expensive iPhone, is now planning its next phone release as demand continues apace. The company now claims to be shipping more than 500,000 units a month with no clear signs of slowing.
With 1000 employees on board and three logistics centers being built in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, the manufacturer envisions an expansion that will enable it to ship 10 million units by the end of the year and to realize sales of at least 5 million. Xiaomi already has a loyal following of 173,000 fans on Weibo, and certainly the disclosure of these numbers will continue to build hype for the company and its handsets.
It will be interesting to hear more about Xiaomi’s plans this year at GMIC. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, is one of our most highly anticipated speakers.
